# Delete a project variable

Soft-delete a project variable and all of its values.

`DELETE /api/project/variable`

Soft-deletes the project variable together with all of its values. Deployments started after this call no longer see it.

This endpoint only deletes variables created in the project. To remove a workspace variable that the project imported, use [Unimport a workspace variable](https://www.jawsdeploy.net/rest-api/project-workspace-variable-unimport); to delete the workspace variable itself, use [Delete a workspace variable](https://www.jawsdeploy.net/rest-api/workspace-variables-delete).

## Parameters

| `variableId` | query | string | yes | ID of the project variable. |

## Errors

| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 400 | Invalid `variableId`. A workspace variable, a project's imported copy of a workspace variable, or a variable that belongs to another organization is reported the same way as one that does not exist. |
| 401 | Missing or invalid Basic auth credentials, or the service account lacks permission to edit this project. |
